The certified safe for automatic watch collectors

The Salvus Milano Mini Elo is a professional, certified burglary-resistant safe, selected by Le Remontoir for collectors who wish to protect their automatic watches and pair them with watch winders in a secure solution recognised by insurers.

Made by the European manufacturer Nauta Security, it combines a compact format (35 × 44 × 35 cm (HxWxD)), professional ECB-S certified armour and a 19-litre interior compartment that can hold 3 to 4 individual Le Remontoir watch winders while leaving room for jewellery and valuables.

European EN 1143-1 Grade II certification — the benchmark for insurers

The safe is tested and certified ECB-S to the European standard EN 1143-1 Grade II, one of the most demanding certifications on the civilian market. Under most French home insurance policies, this certification gives entitlement to indicative cover of:

  • €25,000 for cash
  • €50,000 for valuables (watches, jewellery, precious documents)

The €50,000 ceiling corresponds precisely to what your home insurance policy will recognise for valuables — this is the central argument for validating cover of your watch collection.

A high-end electronic lock, certified EN 1300

The Salvus Milano Mini Elo is fitted with an EN 1300 certified electronic code lock, powered by batteries supplied as standard. Quick opening, simple programming, no more keys to manage. The door opens to 180° for full access to the compartment, and locking with solid bolts on three sides ensures maximum resistance to forcing.

Designed to house your watch winders

The interior of the safe (26 x 35 x 21 cm (HxWxD)) comfortably holds up to 4 individual watch winders in two rows of two: two modules side by side at the back, two more placed directly on top. In front of the winders, around 25 cm of free depth remains for storing jewellery, documents or other valuables.

All individual watch winders in the Le Remontoir catalogue are compatible with this safe, notably the Heisse & Söhne Lune models and our Compact Aluminium winders.

Floor and wall fixing — hardware included

Important: under the EN 1143-1 standard, a safe weighing less than 1,000 kg must be anchored to the floor or wall for its certification to be valid in the eyes of the insurer. The Salvus Milano Mini Elo (124 kg) is fitted with two anchor points — one in the floor, one in the rear wall — and the necessary fixing hardware is supplied as standard.

Installation can be entrusted to your usual tradesperson or a safe specialist. On request, we can refer you to a provider in your area (separate quote).

Why Le Remontoir selected this safe

We do not usually sell safes. We made an exception for the Salvus Milano Mini Elo because it precisely meets the criteria of our collector customers: compact so as not to spoil an interior, certified to the highest European level, sized to hold 3 to 4 individual watch winders, and recognised without question by French insurers for the protection of watches and jewellery up to €50,000 in value.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the products made?

Transparency about product origin

Most products available on the market are made in China and offered by several resellers. When a product has a different origin or place of manufacture, this is clearly stated on its product page. This is notably the case for several items from the brands featured in our shop.

How do I know if my watch is the right size?

Watch winders fit most straps and dials. Where there is a risk that the winder may be too small, this is stated on the product page.

How many turns per day does my watch need?

An automatic watch needs around 600 turns per day on average. The older your watch, the more turns per day it will need. For a new watch, 500 turns per day is more than enough.

How does a watch winder work?

A watch winder reproduces the motion of the wrist to keep an automatic watch running.

Principe :

  1. An automatic watch winds itself through an oscillating weight (rotor) that turns when the watch is in motion.
  2. The watch winder contains an electric motor that rotates a holder (cushion) on which the watch is fixed.
  3. This motion drives the rotor, which winds the watch's mainspring → power reserve maintained.

Technical specifications:

  • TPD (Turns Per Day): the number of rotations programmed per day. A quality watch winder offers several settings (often 300 to 1200).
  • Direction of rotation: clockwise, anticlockwise or alternating. Each calibre has its preferences (some only wind in one direction).
  • Cycles: the motor runs at intervals, with rest phases to avoid overwinding.

In practice:

  • You place your watch on the winder's cushion.
  • You set the mode (TPD + direction).
  • The winder runs its cycles automatically (e.g. 3 minutes of rotation every hour).
  • Result: the watch stays on time and does not stop, even when you are not wearing it.

How long should my watch stay on its winder?

An automatic watch can stay permanently on a watch winder, but it is not essential. Key points:

  • Purpose of the winder: it keeps the watch on time and keeps the lubricating oils gently in motion.
  • Risk of wear: very low, as a good winder is set to a limited number of turns per day (TPD). A watch worn on the wrist often undergoes more rotations than on a winder.
  • Recommended duration:

Everyday use → leave the watch on the winder when you are not wearing it, especially if you alternate between several watches.

Occasional use → 1 to 2 days before putting it back on the wrist is enough to get it going again.

  • Settings: adjust the number of TPD and the direction of rotation to your movement (often 600–900 TPD, bidirectional for ETA/Valjoux, for example).

In short: you can leave your watch on the winder continuously without concern, provided the winder is set correctly.
